Introduced in 1978, Gibson’s Super V CES was a premium-grade archtop that combined a number of Gibson’s best-loved designs. The Super V offered Super 400 styling on the more manageable 17″ body of the L-5C, along with the solid carved body, long scale, parallel bracing, and all gold hardware. Unavailable since 1993, this rare premium model has developed an insider’s following in the years since.
This guitar is carved of handsome figured maple, with a solid quartersawn Sitka spruce soundboard of exceptionally fine grain. Carefully maintained in superb condition, the guitar shows its original dark sunburst finish, free of cracks, pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. Action is smooth and low over a fine medium D profile neck, with a fresh high-precision setup, and the voice is rich and inviting, with classic Gibson warmth and depth.
With the traditional pearl-inlaid ebony bridge, this stunning guitar was also fitted with the coveted Kluson Sealfast tuners, now long out of production. A unique model, blending many of Gibson’s most desirable features, the Super V is one rare bird.
This instrument is strung with 11-52 set. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
